Job summary: To inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by providing support in developing and implementing a Community Engagement pre-school child care program that reflects the diverse interests, talents, perspectives and learning styles of the children served  in a manner consistent with the philosophies, policies, practices, goals and expectations of Osseo Area Schools and the Four Star Express program.

 

About Four Star: Four Star Express is a high-quality early learning program for four-year-old students that aligns with the district’s mission: To inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to community, and engage in a lifetime of learning. Four Star Express is a unique, full-day childcare program located within the school setting, designed to nurture, prepare, and support the growth of four-year-old children as they get ready for kindergarten.

 

 

Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Develop ongoing program.  Gather input from parents, staff, and children to use in planning.
  • Greet parents and children.
  • Work with and support all children in the program.
  • Implement and participate in the Four Star Express program that meets the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the children.
  • Promote effective use of time, materials, and standards for student discipline.
  • In cooperation with Site Supervisor, maintain the continual well being of the children in the program.  This includes individual child conferences as needed with parents and staff.
  • Develop and implement a written plan of program activities on a regular basis.
  • Participate in all children's activities; leads small group activities.
  • Maintain an attractive, safe, and functional room environment; includes bulletin boards, lockers/closets, and supervising clean-up time.  Assist in the planning and purchasing of supplies and equipment.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service workshops, Four Star Express sponsored events, and parent advisory meetings to maintain effective communication between the program and parents.
  • Keep child related/program related records, such as attendance, programs, schedules, and others as determined by the Program Manager.
  • Be knowledgeable of the overall philosophy of Four Star Express and the policies and procedures of the individual program.

 

 

Health and Safety

  • Follow all District, program, and building health and safety procedures.
  • Communicate accidents/incidents concerning children/staff verbally and in writing to Program Leaders and/or families as needed.
  • Ensure all students are actively supervised at all times (indoor/outdoor play, meal times and nap/rest times), including those requiring extra support. 

Supervision and Security

  • Actively supervise all children in the program at all times.
  • Accurately count and track students throughout transitions, activities, spaces and field trips to ensure all children are accounted for at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of children and families.
  • Support field trips and adjust hours and/or locations as needed.

Communication, Teamwork, and Partnerships

  • Collaborate with instructors and program leaders and staff to ensure the well-being of children and to provide enriching activities.
  • Follow up with families regarding concerns or feedback and complete necessary documentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting families and ensuring children are signed in/out of the program.
  • Welcomes and values diversity in thought, culture, and perspective, fostering an inclusive environment free of judgment.
  • Assist with preparation of materials, meals/snacks and clean up tasks.
  • Perform additional site duties as assigned.

Inclusive Environment

  • Dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all families, children, and staff regardless of abilities, ethnicities, genders, and religious beliefs. 
  • Assisting and supporting individuals accommodations may include extra individual support. 
  • Assist with medical, physical, or behavioral needs as necessary.
  • Operate adaptive equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, augmentative communication devices, assistive technology) and ensure proper use.
  • Assist children with self-care tasks (e.g., feeding, dressing, toileting) Lifting, moving and transitioning may be necessary for repositioning and/or functional tasks as needed.
  • Under the direction of a licensed school nurse or registered nurse, perform basic medical procedures to include, but not limited to, tube feedings, seizure recognition and precautions, etc.

Quality Programming

  • Facilitate and organize enriching opportunities for children across different groups, abilities, and identities.
  • Support, collaborate with a team to facilitate enriching activities that promote a child's social, emotional, intellectual, developmental and physical well-being.
  • Lead or assist in small and/or large group activities and transitions.
  • Actively engage with children, role modeling positive behavior, supervision, and leadership.
  • Follow and uphold the mission, philosophy, guidelines, policies, and procedures of the District and Kidstop program.
  • Support the implementation of schedules and routines that meet children’s developmental needs. 

Professional Development

  • All new hires must complete a background check and all required pre-employment paperwork prior to their start date.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training/workshops, and program-sponsored events.


Minimum qualifications include: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, but 21 years of age is preferred at the time of employment.
  • Must have two years of credit towards a bachelor's degree and 2,080 hours of direct work experience in a preschool kindergarten readiness setting for children eligible for kindergarten the following school year.
  • Experience must include assessing children's cognitive skills with a child assessment instrument when the child enters the program and when a child leaves the program.
  • Current First Aid and CPR training or within 90 days of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications include: 

  • Planning and implementing early childhood instructional content, through hands-on learning lab instruction and play that enhances the child's skills in literacy, math, science, social, music and technology.
  • Prefer a bachelor's degree, and 1,040 hours of direct work experience in a preschool kindergarten readiness setting for children eligible for kindergarten the following school year.


Hours:  8 hrs/day; 5 days/week (8:00am-4:30pm)
